Group Runs

5Group runs may be the best thing about a running club! Much of the club’s activities revolve around a group of folks who enjoy running, whether it be easy conversational running, harder training, or racing.

Running in a group environment can have tremendous benefits .  Being part of a running group helps to keep you motivated and less likely to skip your runs, leading to greater consistency . Groups help  “push” everyone along so that you often find yourself being able to run faster than if you were on your own.  The way to get faster is to run faster, and groups help you do just that. One of the major reasons folks join running clubs is “to have someone to run with”. Those of us who run in rural areas, know the feeling well!

Run NNK group runs are every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Northumberland High School track. Runs are at a variety of distances and paces to accommodate runners of all abilities. The club will provide water and post run refreshments. You can almost always find someone to run with. Just come out and run with us!

Upcoming Group Runs are posted on the web site and on our Facebook page.

Beginners Programs

clipboard01Run NNK offers a running program for new runners – people just getting started or re-started with running. The program is free for club members and $20 for non-members (which includes a one year Run NNK membership.) If you’ve wanted to start or re-start running, come on out and join us. All paces are welcome. If you’ve never run before – that’s OK. We are ready to work with all runners and walkers regardless of pace. The club offers  $5 discount for those completing the program and entering a goal 5K race selected for each 8 week session.

The Fall program starts in mid August and leads up to a local 5K in October.  The Spring program will begin in early February and lead up to the club’s Earth Day 5K in April. The final program begins in mid May and leads up to the Reedville Firecracker 5K in July.

The program is designed to gradually move participants to being able to run for 30 minutes. Participants receive a detailed 8 week schedule that involves 4 to 5 workouts per week, with 2 group run meetings with club coaches. If you are interested in participating in the program email Bill Kirby wkirby@runnnk.org so we can plan accordingly.
